We examine whether mobility disruptions after lockdowns are social drinking ‘tipping points’.

We find that mobility restrictions depress both mobility and alcohol use for all except for heavy drinkers (consistent with a ‘still and dry pandemic for the many’ hypothesis).

A reduction in social contacts further reduces drinking use by 2.8 percentage points among men.
